Mumbai is a metro, throbbing with activity and full of life, experiences and energy. While surviving in this metro, one goes through varied feelings and emotions. One is full of joy, anger, happiness, satisfaction and sorrow, which is nothing but ultimately an expression of the turmoil of human life.
The growth of this metro city, the limitation of land on offer for habitation and also the complexity in the movement has made Mumbai unique. The over-rushed and overcrowded local trains, loaded buses, and people moving about in a hurry are common. But the enormity of the crowds makes one mesmerized. Buses and trains, the two major modes of transportation in the city for its common people, are treasure trove of experiences. People in this metro rely heavily on them for reaching their homes and offices. One happens to come across all sorts of peculiar emotional experiences in this daily transition.
Manish Sutar is a young sensitive artist who is a part of this bustling metro life since childhood. His sensitive mind and inquisitive nature raise questions concerning such ‘moving’ experiences. The 'Bus', one of the modes of transportation, converts into symbol of ‘journey of Life’ in the artist’s works ‘In Transition’ at Mumbai’s Studio Napean.
The forms of bus interior, seats, people of different moods, characters make it a meaningful journey through his paintings. He makes an effort to express the complexity of human life in transition through his simple forms as well as flowing washes. Though our life is full of problems, every human being is ultimately alone and isolated.
One cannot escape from this helpless situation and bitter reality. Manish Sutar's paintings express this bitter truth he has realized. Undoubtedly, his paintings does not speak merely about the actual ‘Transition’ but the ‘Transition of human mind and life’
