K.G Subramanyan or Mani da as he is affectionately known by all his students, artist friends, admirers and all those who view his work has been working for over a year on a major exhibition of his paintings.
The exhibition entitled ‘The Magic of Making’ is being presented by The Seagull Foundation for the Arts from the 5th of December 2007 to 5th of January 2008 in Calcutta at the Seagull Arts and Media Resource Center (36C S.P. Mukherjee Road, Calcutta 700025) from 11 am to 8 pm each day.
The exhibition featuring over 320 works by the master painter will be spread over three floors of the Centre and will also include screenings of documentaries on the artist.
It may be of interest here to note that the Seagull Arts and Media Resource Centre has emptied the entire library on the ground floor for the duration of the exhibition in order to showcase this extensive collection of the artist's old and new works.
Portfolios of the artist's sketches and drawings from earlier years will accompany the 120 recent canvas and paper works in the exhibition.
On sale during the exhibition will be a special range of the artists sketchbooks (in facsimile form) and in a limited edition of 350, monographs, ten children's books, a collection of essays, a collection of poetry, a collection of letters and other prose writings by the artist.
The exhibition catalogue priced at Rs 750 is a collector's item with miscellaneous writings by the artist as well as images of all the work in the exhibition.
‘The Magic of Making’ will later travel to Chennai, Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai between January and April 2008.
