Young and talented Lokesh Khodke
Upcoming artist Lokesh Khodke explores space and its relationship vis-a-vis object.
He does so with all its complex historical, cultural and political implications. Addressing the question of space and inter/contradictory relationship with object, time and people forms core of young and talented artist. Within his artistic realm, Lokesh Khodke tries to address this particular aspect - both at a subjective as well as formal level.
Another issue that constantly comes up, while exploring this maze is space and the complex power relationships that go with it, an issue that he wants to address in context of contemporary times.
Born in 1979, the promising artist secured a B.F.A in painting, 2002 and a M.F.A in painting in 2004 from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. He has received Nasreen Mohammedi Scholarship, Baroda and also received Gold medal of excellence in Visual Arts from M.S.U. Baroda, in 2004.
The artist’s recent participations include ‘Through a glass darkly: Reflections on the self-portrait’, The Guild, Mumbai; ‘Representations-3’, Triva Contemporary Art Gallery, Trivandrum; ‘Interlude- Venice/Kassel’, The Guild; ‘The aura art show’, Aura Art gallery, Mumbai’; ‘After Images’, Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery, Baroda; ‘Points of reference’, Art & Soul gallery; ‘Beyond Credos’, Birla art Academy Kolkata; Tangerine art space, Chitrakala Parishad, Bangalore.
Putting his artistic growth in perspective, Lokesh Khodke says: “Over the course of my art practice, I have realized that the way in which one lives one’s life or confront its various dimensions definitely reflects in one’s work. I feel the life around me continues to pose several questions. With the passage of time, these queries have only caused an unknown, unspeakable discomfort regarding my own complacent notions about life and language of art itself.”
