Indian Contemporary Art debuts in Cincinnati
Metamorphosis maps Change and Continuity in Indian Contemporary Art.
‘Metamorphosis – Change and Continuity in Indian Contemporary Art’ is a collaborative exhibition between the ArtWorks Gallery, PAC Gallery, Phyllis Weston-Annie Bolling Gallery, and the Krohn Conservatory. It is planned in collaboration with the annual butterfly show ‘Butterflies of India’ hosted at the Krohn Conservatory. The eclectic series of events focuses on Indian Culture. It is aimed at tantalizing the senses and invigorating the arts community.
The show is curated by Radha Chandrashekaran along with Meena Vari. ‘Metamorphosis’ maps the change and continuity in India’s contemporary art through the works of 14 Indian contemporary artists – established and emerging – such as Vivek Vilasini, Murali Cheeroth and George Martin, all recognized as India’s leading artists.
Each considers dramatic shifts in India’s economy and society and then tempers them with an understanding of culture and history. The works including photographs and paintings explore the present age of globalization. These combine major Western art movements with India’s cultures, traditions, and vast artistic expressions.
The two-month long in the Midwestern United States will allow an international exchange between western and eastern cultures.
